Provincial Council

Provincial Council members are FIC’s first defense to identifying issues within the fitness industry. They are representatives who are proactive industry leaders. They spearhead our provincial coalitions and guide provincial matters by rallying the fitness industry.

Council Governance

  • To apply to become a Provincial Councilor, please email us to receive an application form.
  • Provincial Council members are eligible to be nominated as a Board of Director after one year on the Provincial Council.
  • Provincial Council members must participate in their coordinating provincial coalition group.
  • Provincial Council members must sign and abide by FIC’s Code of Conduct.
  • Provincial Council members must participate on at least one of FIC’s committees.
Mo Hagan

Maureen (Mo) Hagan

Maureen (Mo) Hagan is a global fitness ambassador, recognized for her work and leadership in the fitness industry that spans almost 4 decades. Mo is Chief Operating Officer for canfitpro – Canada’s leading fitness education authority -- and the creator of canfitpro’s Women Who Influence. Mo is an international award-winning program director and group fitness instructor and the recipient of multiple industry leadership awards including the IHRSA Julie Main Woman Leader of the Year (2016) and the Canadian Fitness Industry Leader of the Year (2019), an optimyz 2020 Top 10 Women of Power and optimyz Top 100 Health Influencer since 2018. This reaffirms for Mo that she is living her purpose –moving people and businesses forward with her passion for leading and positively influencing change and innovation. Mo’s passion for moving people extends beyond the fitness industry with her work as a national board member for Prescription To Get Active, a member of the optimyz advisory board and founding board member with the Women In Fitness Association (WIFA).

The “Maureen Hagan Fit for Life Award” was created at her high school to recognize the effort and determination of a student at T.A. Blakelock in Oakville, Ontario. The award consists of a scholarship, which Mo presents annually to a graduating student with an outstanding work ethic and positive attitude and who is seeking post-secondary education. Mo lives in London Ontario with her husband Ken and enjoys teaching fitness at GoodLife Fitness and on her own street to her neighbors on a weekly basis.

MJ Shaw

MJ Shaw

MJ Shaw is a Fitness Expert and Entrepreneur who has been working to move people into their power for over 25 years. She is the owner and founder of SOUL FUEL Fitness, a boutique fitness studio on Bloor West with 20 staff and over 500 clients. MJ is a regular guest on BNN, CBC and CTV. Before opening SOUL FUEL, MJ founded 3 other fitness and entertainment businesses and worked as a professional actor, choreographer and director for 30 years. She continues to choreograph for various film & tv projects.

MJ holds an Masters and HBA in Theatre from University of Toronto, alongside minors in Politics and Religion. Fitness certifications include: Canadian Federation of Coaches, American Council of Exercise, Canfitpro, Yoga Alliance, American Fitness Association and British Association of Teachers of Dancing. www.melissajaneshaw.com

Angela Longstaffe

Angela Longstaffe

As an adolescent, Angela Longstaffe was a champion ring tennis player, loved handball and worked as a lifeguard. She was one of the first clients at Body & Soul Health and Fitness in Vancouver, BC. Originally, she was referred to the fitness facility by her doctor to assist with pain. She recognized Body & Soul Health and Fitness as a vibrant business and became a silent partner for 3 years.

In 2001 Angela became more involved on a daily basis, and in 2003 became the sole owner. In 2011, after many years of running the business, Angela took the first step towards retirement. Although she is now less involved in the day-to-day running of the business, she continues to oversee key decisions and manage the strategic direction of the company.

Lisa Sommers

Lisa Sommers

Lisa’s change in career happened in 2003, after working in various senior positions in Marketing, Purchasing, and Market Research in the Foodservice industry. She has really enjoyed this change in pace and thrives on assisting clients with bettering their own physical and mental wellbeing. The area of Workplace Wellness has held a great deal of intrigue for Lisa and is something she has researched and liaised with others over the past few years. She is working towards bringing more wellness initiatives into the workplace, especially small business.

Lisa has been active all her life in various activities, especially as a figure skater. She was a member of the Toronto Cricket Club’s Precision (synchronized) team that competed at the Canadian level, with her team winning gold medals in 1993 and 1994. In addition to Pilates and Yamuna Body Rolling, she enjoys hiking and rollerblading among her recreational pursuits. Lisa has been a long-term (close to 30 years) volunteer in various capacities at Casey House Hospice, a world-renowned AIDS hospice in Toronto.

Diane Saucier

Diane Saucier

Diane Saucier is the General Manager of Midtown Sanctuaire in Montreal. She has over 25 years of extensive experience as a director, sales manager, owner and consultant with roles ranging from sales executive, exercise specialist, clinician, to the overall management of large multisport fitness clubs and community centers.

In 1995, Diane owned her own fitness studio before assuming the role as Sales Manager with GoodLife Fitness Clubs Montreal. Diane joined Midtown Le Sporting Club Sanctuaire as Sales and Marketing Director in 1999. After taking time off to raise her family, Diane returned to a full-time career as the General Manager at Mansfield Athletic Club in 1994. Since then she’s worked at Ottawa Athletic Club as a consultant and for Health Systems Group as the Director at Ben Weider JCC. Diane returned to Midtown Sanctuaire as the General Manager in February 2016.

Rob Dickson

Rob Dickson

Rob has worked in the fitness industry since 2002. Rob has held many different positions over the years including Kinesiologist, Personal Trainer, Strength and Conditioning Director, Program Manager, General Manager and Director of Operations for several well-known fitness centers.

Rob holds a BSc in Human Kinetics from St. Francis Xavier University. Rob is also a CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologist and a canfitpro PRO TRAINER. Rob lives in beautiful Prince Edward Island with his wife and two daughters and is currently working at Dynamic Fitness in Charlottetown.

Krishea Holloway

Krishea Holloway

Krishea Holloway is the Vice President of the North America Operations. She is responsible for operational leadership of the North America business and franchise operations team including marketing, training, communication, compliance, and engagement programs. Krishea began her career with Curves as an owner of a Curves Club in 1997 and after creating excellent success at her club was asked by the company to become a mentor to other club owners.

She joined the Corporate support team as a Club Operations Trainer and has held progressive positions within the company including, Sales and Resales management, Country Manager for New Zealand and Australia and Director of Operations for North America. Krishea graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Hawaii.

Katherine MacKeigan

Katherine MacKeigan

Katherine MacKeigan is the Director of the Provincial Fitness Unit (University of Alberta), and Executive Director of the Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association. Katherine is known as a tireless advocate for active living, and for professionalism, standards, certification, and education for exercise professionals.

Katherine is the Vice-Chair of the International Confederation of Registers for Exercise Professionals and is working with national partners to establish internationally recognized benchmarks for the registration of group exercise and personal training professionals across Canada.

Nasser Obeid

Nasser Obeid

Nasser Obeid, a Canadian Kinesiologist from McMaster University is the President of JHT Fitness Canada; a wholly-owned subsidiary of Johnson Health Tech. International, the manufacturer of Matrix Fitness equipment.

Nasser has over twenty years of international experience in the health and fitness industry.

Matthew Taub

Matthew Taub

Matthew Taub is a 25-year fitness industry veteran. An international fitness presenter and fitness educator. Previously a Beachbody Live P90X Master Trainer, format expert and choreographer, Matthew is now the Regional Fitness Manager and Regional Trainer for Orangetheory Fitness.

Beginning his career in fitness as a sales associate he has worked through all areas of the fitness world from consultant to gym owner. Working with personal trainers and studio owners as well as big-box fitness, his passion has led him to help others change their lives.

Balal Anwar

Balal Anwar

As Motion Fitness Director Balal Anwar is responsible for Motion Fitness day to day operations as well as leading the company’s product development.

He also oversees all revenue and customer operations as well as marketing and partnership.

Jean Denis Thomson

Jean-Denis Thomson

Jean-Denis holds a B.S. in Physical Activity from UQÀM. For more than 18 years he is the Head of Energie Cardio’s Training Department, he as a role of inspiring and leading his team of 400 personal trainers and group exercise instructors. For more than 10 years, he certified personal trainers all over the province of Québec.

He speaks at many training conferences and as his columns on Énergie Cardio’s Web site. He teaches indoor cycling in his spare time and works as a personal trainer for a wide range of clients, ranging from athletes to clients targeting weight loss. Also, Jean-Denis teaches “sport center management” at Bishop’s University. Finally, but mostly, he loves training for different planned events and also just for the fun of it.

Skye Kaiss

Skye Kaiss is the Chief Operating Officer of Evolution Fitness and an Orangetheory Franchisee. Currently, the Kaiss Group is operating four Evolution Fitness locations, serving over 10,000 members.

Skye’s educational background includes a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a graduate of the International Institute of Political and Economic Studies through Georgetown University. The Kaiss Group strongly believes in community involvement as a key aspect of the success of their fitness business. A partial list of community partners includes the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, University of Regina and the John Howard Society.

Emily Slaneff

Emily Slaneff is the Founder and Chief Goal Officer of CrushCamp, a boutique studio in Calgary, Alberta whose mandate is to help their members crush their fitness goals. She was inspired to develop CrushCamp after struggling to find her own fitness home - a single studio that would keep her motivated, accountable, and constantly progressing. With two studio rooms and over 4000sqft of space, the mandate of CrushCamp is to offer “training for the high-performance lifestyle” via its 3 class offerings: the signature CRUSHCAMP HIIT class which utilizes the Technogym SKILLMILL to build Speed, Power, and Endurance; a LIFT class to develop focused strength and muscle activation; and a unique, music-driven, athletic yoga class branded CRUSHFLOW created to offer the mobility and flexibility that runners, lifters, and everyday goal crushers need to continue progressing and remain injury-free. Along with her programming team, Emily led the development of all three class types based on the needs and feedback of both herself and her members.

Prior to founding CrushCamp in 2017, Emily obtained her BComm (Marketing) from the Haskayne School of Business and worked for 7 years in digital marketing for multinational brands including Nissan, GoDaddy, and the Calgary Stampede. Not naturally athletic, in her youth she participated in musical theatre over sports, which she believes led to her passion for creating memorable and unique studio experiences. She lives in Calgary and enjoys reading, running, and weekends in Canmore with her husband Ross and labradoodle Elvis.

Eveline Canape

Physical educator Eveline Canape began her career in 1984 as a trainer for a wide variety of clients. She worked her way up to become Training Director, then General Manager at a multisport centre in Laval (Quebec), where her work earned her the prestigious Arista Sunlife award for ‘’Quebec Young Executive’’. Her managerial ambitions led her to the Director of Operations position for a chain of Canadian gyms. In 2009, she became Director of Business Development at Énergie Cardio, a network she acquired seven years later with her associate Claire Tremblay. She became Vice President of Training and Client Experience, and co-owner of the Énergie Cardio franchise chain.

Currently, her role is to oversee the quality and development of training services, and to give her 800 devoted and passionate employees the tools they need to provide quality training through unique experiences, all in the spirit of fun and personal growth!

Jeff Ardron is the President & General Manager of Fitness Unlimited Athletic Club in Maple Ridge, BC. Jeff is also a co-owner with his brother Mark of Fitness Unlimited in Richmond, BC. Fitness Unlimited believes strongly in being a partner in the community. Over the past few years, Fitness Unlimited has and continues to support and work with such organizations as The Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, and The Heart & Stroke Foundation.

As a second generation club owner, Jeff has spent his whole life growing up in the fitness club his parents founded. Jeff has managed the Maple Ridge location for 6 years and bought it a year and a half ago. A graduate of BCIT’s School of Business, Jeff enjoys practicing what he preaches (exercise). He spends the remainder of his time trying to keep up with his young family.

Perry Tucciarone is the Director, National Accounts & Business Development for Merchant Treasury Services (MTS). MTS is a payment processing, recovery and club management software company. MTS has been providing software solutions to the fitness industry for over 12 years. MTS was the first company to implement a comprehensive software solution to streamline and manage a club’s recurring payment and recovery process. Prior to MTS, Perry successfully owned and managed his own fitness clubs, as well as managed and consulted fitness clubs in Canada and the United States for over 20 years.

It is this well-rounded experience in the industry which allows Perry to successfully find solutions while maintaining long-term professional relationships with fitness club owners, managers, and other industry professionals.

Renaud Beaudry

Renaud Beaudry

A young and optimistic leader who has been involved in the family business for nearly 20 years, Renaud Beaudry has a passion for the fitness industry, and particularly its growth in Quebec, and he has held this passion from an early age!

After completing a bachelor's degree in tourism management at UQAM and some studies abroad, he quickly became an integral part of the family business. In fact, he won the International Health Racquet and Sportclub Association (IHRSA) Rising Star award in 2018.
